Nicolas Chartier-Edwards is a PhD Candidate at Institut national de la recherche scientifique (INRS) in Québec City, Canada, where he pursues a custom program in Politics, Science and Technology. His thesis focuses on how the promotion, regulation, and deployment of artificial intelligence technologies in both the Canadian and Québecois's public administration transforms the very fabric of politics and governance. Through a combined approach of political sociology and science and technology studies, Nicolas aims to produce knowledge on the technological construction of politics and the political construction of technology.

His broader work in the context of the Shaping 21st Century AI – Controversies and Closure in Media, Policy, and Research project investigates the deployment of AI at the Canadian border, the political economy of innovation clusters and the transformations prompted by the technoscientific shift in research. He was an invited researcher at médialab Sciences Po Paris during the fall of 2023. As of 2024, Nicolas is a researcher for the Chaire de recherche du Québec sur l'intelligence artificielle et le numérique francophones (Chaire IANF).

Nicolas presented his work in various conferences and symposiums including, but not limited to, séminaire du médialab, EASST/4S and ACFAS. He published in peer-reviewed journals such as AI & Society, Journal of Digital Social Research, and Sessions Sociologiques and contributed book chapters for editors such as Routledge and Presses de l'Université de Montréal.
